"That Place" is a small, remote town with only a few inhabitants who have known each other practically their entire lives.

The main residents are: Veronikka, Marko and his twin brother Apollo, Evelyn and her parents, Elvira, Milenna and her parents. Also living there are Esther, who currently takes care of her niece Carrieta; Eric, who works at the video game store; Amanda, who runs the ice cream shop at the mall; Pedro, the grocery store clerk at the mall; Math, Milenna’s boyfriend; Juliette, the librarian; the Sailor Scouts and Tuxedo Mask, along with many other insignificant residents.

A bit of context

Veronikka, Evelyn, and Marko have been friends since childhood. They've known each other forever, but their bond strengthened during elementary school. Each of them is associated with a video game console: Veronikka with Sega Genesis, Evelyn with Nintendo, and Marko with Atari.
Since they were kids, they loved snooping into their neighbors' lives. Apollo used to be part of these investigations, but over the years, he distanced himself from the group (though he never stopped investigating certain people on his own).

Esther was the group's main target. A refined, upper-class, single woman, no one knows what she does for a living or where she got her wealth. The most intriguing thing about her was the door in her room that led directly to the basement—where no one was ever allowed to enter. Many neighborhood gatherings were held at her house, and the kids desperately wanted to sneak into the basement, but it was impossible. The leading theories about what was hidden down there? A torture chamber or a sadomasochism room.
The only thing known for sure is that she has a niece named Carrieta, who is sent to stay with her for "re-education" since she is a very troublesome child. While Carrieta hasn’t lived in "That Place" all her life, she regularly visits her aunt (and sometimes stays for extended periods for her "re-education"). Despite everything, Carrieta used to play with the other kids and was often a cheerful visitor.

As for the rest of the town, there is an air of loneliness and boredom, a feeling of despair, yet at the same time, a faint hope that things will improve—although no one is quite sure what exactly needs to change, as there are no financial, health, or other apparent issues. It’s simply the atmosphere of "That Place."
